Hope-ocrisy: Honduras Edition

Let’s say you have two countries. One of them is a relatively peaceful country with a history of trade with the United States and an on-again-off-again relationship with our enemies. The other is a violent, anti-Western despotic regime who is our sworn enemy and routinely calls for our destruction.

The despotic regime holds an “election,” which it blatantly and ham-handedly rigs. When the people protest they are met with clubs, snipers, and tanks. Do you:

(a) stand up for the dignity of democracy and the rule of law?
(b) demand that the despotic regime hold fair and free elections?
(c) threaten international sanctions unless the violence stops? or
(d) get some tasty frozen custard.

Next question: The relatively peaceful country’s president is generally considered to be an ally of a regional dictator. That president decides that, even though the country’s constitution forbids it, he wants a second term. When he tries to get one anyway, the legislature, the courts and the military oppose him, saying he is acting outside his constitutional authority and usurping power. The court issues an order that the president be arrested and the military enforces that order. Do you:

(a) stand up for the dignity of democracy and the rule of law?
(b) demand that the president step down and allow fair and free elections?
(c) MYOB, STFU and GBTW? or
(d) express grave concern for the “coup” perpetrated against the fledgling leftist dictator?

Obama is so far out of his depths, he’ll need a hypobaric chamber when he finally gets out of office. He stays silent for over a week on the Iranian massacres, meekly hiding behind the “oh, but they’ll call us the Great Satan again” excuse. Then in response to a relatively bloodless coup, which was really in defense of a democratic constitution, he jumps in, arms flailing, issues decided.

Look at the contrast: less than 24 hours after Zelaya is deposed, Obama says that the coup is “illegal” (as opposed to all of those legal coups we’re used to), Zelaya is still the rightful president and if he is not reinstated, Honduras may lose its foreign aide. It took Obama over a week before he would even say that the vote in Iran was rigged. Even Biden knew it was rigged, and Biden is an idiot. Obama was eating forzen custard while Neda bled to death. Chavez-light spends a night in a Costa Rican hotel, and Obama’s panties are in a bunch.
